The Basics
Introduction
Do you know what happens at the end of primary school? That’s right! You’ll be going to secondary (or high) school. This is a really exciting time to meet new friends, learn about new subjects you haven’t done before and have new teachers. We’ll be talking more about your transition to secondary school in the high school section.
After your journey through secondary school you will be thinking about going to university, and during all these steps you’ll be considering what job or career you’d like. There are a couple of sets of exams that you will take before university, do you know what they are called? GCSEs and A Levels! These are the key to get into a good university.
One of the most exciting things about university is that you can choose what you study and where! There are lots of decisions to make about being a student at university, have a look through the tabs to see what you might choose in the future! If any of the words here seem confusing, why not take a look at the dictionary tab where we explain what the words mean. You can also have a think about what course you’d like to do in the prospectus tab and watch videos from current students at the University of Liverpool.
Meet the students

Jack
Hi everyone, my name's Jack, I'm 19 and in my 2nd year studying Electrical Engineering. I moved to Liverpool from London and I am the first person in my family to go to university! Moving to university was scary at first but now I feel right at home!

Mia
I'm Mia, I’m 18 years old and I am in my first year studying Law. I live local to the University of Liverpool campus because I wanted to stay close to home. I am in halls of residence though, as I like to be independent, I love living with my new friends. I have overcome some barriers to university but I have had lots of support since I started. I love being a student and can't wait to be a lawyer!

Abdul
Hello, I am Abdul, I am 22. I am studying Medicine at the University of Liverpool. When I was in primary school I visited the University of Liverpool campus and it inspired me to work hard at school and introduced me to Medicine. Where I live, not many people go to university but that didn't put me off! I live in a student house with some other Medical students near the campus. I love going to the Guild of Students at the weekend and spend lots of time in the library ready for my shifts at the hospital.
