The Basics

Transition to secondary school

The next step in your journey is to go to secondary (or high) school. You might be talking to your parents/carers and your friends about where you might go or you might even have applied already. Secondary school might feel like a big change but it is an exciting time to experience different things and learn new subjects.

You might find the first week an adjustment but soon enough it will become normal to you, just like primary school did. It also is a similar time when you’ve done your A Level exams and progress onto university. Both times you get some independence, you might be travelling to school on the bus for the first time, and university is similar. You might decide to move away from home for example.

In the first few days you will have a timetable to get used to but like in primary school you will have a form tutor who will support you with where things are. The key thing to remember is that everyone has been through the same journey as you and you are not alone!

Sarah is an Undergraduate English student. Watch the video about her experience of preparing for university.
