The Basics

What is university?

University is where you study for your future goals, that could be a job or career goal or you could study a subject because you find it interesting and want to learn more. Our subjects at University are called courses, you can learn more about courses in the tab below. You can choose to study whatever course you like! You can go to university when you are 18, but some people choose to wait a little longer than that- there is no age limit!

Other benefits of going to university are being able to live away from home (if you choose) and moving to a new city! University is like a big school, we have similar things to school like classrooms, which we call lecture theatres and our subjects have whole buildings to themselves! At Liverpool we have over one hundred buildings! These buildings all together are called a campus. Also on the campus are libraries, a sports centre with a swimming pool, shops, banks and a music venue! It is a really fun place to be. Some students even live on campus, in halls of residence. Here are some pictures of some of the buildings on our campus.

Here are some facts about the University:

  • VGM was the first university building, this is the red building in the image bank below.
  • We have over 110 buildings on our campus, and we get bigger every year!
  • Our libraries are open 24 hours a day!
  • We have about 25,000 students at the University, including online and international students.
