You might have already learnt a few French words in primary school, like bonjour (hello), au revoir (goodbye) and merci (thank you). Studying French at university means that you become really good at speaking, writing and reading French. As well as the language, you might also learn about the history and culture of France, and other countries that speak French – you could learn about famous buildings in the country, famous Kings and Queens and lots of other different things. Most language courses, like French, are four years long because you spend your third year abroad, in a country that speaks that language, either studying or working. It helps you to practise the language and understand the country better!
