Dentistry is what you need to study if you want to become a dentist. Dentists help us to make sure our teeth are clean and healthy. They check our teeth for any little holes called cavities, and if they find any they will give us a filling so that it doesn’t hurt any more. They also give us advice on how to clean our teeth properly and any foods we should avoid.
Dental students spend five years learning about general medicine. They also have practical sessions in dental surgeries where they learn from qualified dentists and practice putting fillings in and giving advice to real patients. Once dentists have graduated, they can study more and become an orthodontist, which is someone who puts braces on teeth to make them straight.
