Medicine is one of the most difficult courses you can study at university. Medical students learn all about the human body, what makes people ill, and how to make them feel better. Students will spend some time in lectures, but also lots of time in hospitals and clinics where they will practice on real patients.
There are over 60 different areas that doctors can specialise in! Some doctors will specialise in different parts of the body like the heart, brain and lungs or certain illnesses like strokes or infectious diseases so they can give the most specialist care and advice. Some doctors also choose to specialise in working with children or the elderly.
Doctors will need to be good listeners, work well as a team and be good at science and maths. Doctors have to work very hard and long hours too, but it is a very rewarding career because they help people to feel better, and even get to save lives.
